We’ll start our Tour Lisbon Sintra departing from your hotel in Lisbon, visiting the Lisbon downtown area, with a visit to “Baixa de Lisboa” which was practically devastated by the earthquake of 1755, the largest ever recorded in Europe, for this reason there was a need to rebuild the city with a kind of anti-seismic construction, designed with a set of straight and perpendicular streets having as central axis the Rua Augusta.
Stop at one of the most spectacular Lisbon belvederes the “Lady of the Hill”, for one of the most superb panoramic views of Lisbon. Then we continue our Tour Lisbon Sintra into the Alfama neighborhood (ancient moorish quarter) with its narrow streets and alleys where “Fado”, the portuguese tradicional music started to be sing.
Next, we head for Chiado neighborhood, known by its high-end shops and restaurants, followed by the quarter of ”Bairro Alto”(16th century), a quiet neighborhood during the day time, but who wakes up at night and becomes bohemian district with its bars and restaurants to suit all tastes, along the various parallel and labyrinthine streets.

Sintra a place with a great concentration of historical monuments and interesting tourist attractions, here we will find more than 10 national monuments, including opulent palaces, ancient ruins and decorative palatial houses dispersed by the different hills of the region in very challenging pedestrian paths.

Then our Tour Lisbon Sintra takes us through the beautiful Sintra mountain range towards Cascais by Colares, a must stop to visit Cabo da Roca (westernmost point of the European continent), “where Earth ends and the Sea begins” words of Luis de Camoes a famous Portuguese Poet from the 16th century written at”Os Lusíadas,”(Canto VIII).
The imposing Lighthouse with its 165 meters high, built in 1772, shows the Atlantic Ocean strength, revealing to us one of the most emblematic places in Portugal, local of extreme importance in the period of maritime expansion. Great place to take photos and with some changes in your schedule can even enjoy the sunset.
The visit to the “Hell´s Mouth“ it´s a must, where we can easily see the magnificence of this place, with the erosion exerted by the strong action of the rain, that containing dissolved carbon dioxide causes the carbonate to dissolve and through this process, cavities and caves are formed inside the limestones, with a fall of the upper layers of the cave was destroyed, leaving a large cavity in the open.
On days of more agitated sea you can observe the waves crashing through the rocks inside, a cave that combines its natural beauty with the rough sea, a very beautiful place, where you can enjoy a divine landscape, being only overshadowed by infrequent suicides committed on its dangerous and unprotected cliff.
Time to explore Cascais, this old fishing village, nowadays famous for its splendid white sand beach, the many shops and charming cobbled streets or even for its cosmopolitanism, today transformed into an extremely luxurious resort that attracts visitors from all over the world, time to visit it comfortably.
On our way back to Lisbon, we pass by Estoril, famous for its casino (largest gambling room in Europe) and the “nest” of spies during the 2nd world war, where Yan Fleming got his inspiration to write the first James Bond book, Casino Royale, this former “nest” of espionage during World War II, especially demonstrated by its Casino, considered the largest in Europe, turning the whole coast, we arrived again in Lisbon, more precisely in Belem.
Driving back to Lisbon along the coast, enjoying breathtaking ocean scenery, we will arrive at Belem (Bethlehem), this monumental area dedicated to the great portuguese seafarers of the 15th and 16th centuries.
Here we will visit the Tower of Belem (the Lisbon symbol ), the monastery of St. Jerome (Mosteiro dos Jeronimos), a masterpiece of portuguese 16th century architecture and World Heritage Monument by UNESCO, and the monument to the Discoveries.
We can´t leave Belem without a visit and tasting at the most famous pastry in Portugal: the “Pastel de Belem”, delicious egg custard pastry once made by the monks at the Jeronimo’s monastery.
