You shouldn’t misse the giant religious third in Fatima, made by the Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos, inaugurated on May 12, 2017, precisely to symbolize the centenary of the apparitions, the piece called “Suspensão”, made of white beads, with 26 meters Illuminated for the first time on the night of May 12, when Pope Francis entered into the sanctuary, with the thousands of pilgrims present, to pray the rosary.
In the 19th century Sintra became the first centre of European Romantic architecture when the Portuguese king Ferdinand II turned a ruined monastery into a Palace ( Pena Palace ) where this new sensitivity was displayed in the use of diferente architectural styles; Gothic, Egyptian, Moorish and Renaissance elements and in the creation of a park blending local and exotic species of trees creating a unique combination of parks and gardens which influenced the development of landscape architecture throughout Europe.

May 13th of 1917, three children, Jacinta Marto, Francisco Marto and Lucia de Jesus (known as the three shepherds) had witnessed the appearances of Lady Mary that had told them to built a chapel there to honor our Lady of the White Rosary ( this is the “real” name of this shrine ) Lady Mary, told them that She would return there six more times at the same day ( the 13th) at the same hour in the next six months from 13 of May to the 13th of October.
Fatima, considered by many one of the most important Marian Shrines in the world, where we will pay homage to Lady Mary, in the Cova da Iria through the visit to the two Basilicas there; Our Lady of the White Rosary, Holy Trinity and the Chapel of the Apparitions.
The Chapel of the Apparitions as the first Chapel to be built shortly after the apparitions, located in the center of the Sanctuary is a place not to be missed, not for grandeur, but for the meaning, it is mandatory to visit it on our Fatima and Sintra Tour.
At one end the Basilica of Our Lady of the White Rosary, built in 1928 with a neo-baroque architecture, here you will find the tombs of the three little shepherd children (Francis and Jacinta), and now also the tomb of Sister Lucia, in the other end the imposing Basilica of the Holy Trinity, built in 2007 with more than 8,000 seats and 40,000 m² of area designed by the Greek architect Alexandros Tombazis.
A few minutes from the Sanctuary, theres Valinhos, a small village where the children and their families lived, with there houses extremely well preserved, the house of Francisco and Jacinta (who were brothers) and of Lucia de Jesus (their cousin), possibility to visit both without any cost.
Now its time to enjoy the center of Sintra, with its narrow streets and tiny alleys. In the Sintra historic center, there are countless Portuguese handicraft shops, as well as the famous Sintra local sweets “Travesseiros” at Piriquita bakery, free time to enjoy this wonderful place.
Sintra a place with a great concentration of historical monuments and interesting tourist attractions, here we will find more than 10 national monuments, including opulent palaces, ancient ruins and decorative luxurious houses dispersed by the different hills of the region in very challenging pedestrian paths.
As we reach Sintra, you will be given the choice to decide the monument to visit, between; Queluz Palace, Pena Palace, Monserrate Palace, the Masonic Quinta da Regaleira (with its original well), if you want something more Medieval, maybe the Moorish Castle the choice is yours according to your curiosity.

Atravessei a ponte Vasco da Gama,cheguei a Se túbal,para conhecer o seu amplo e perfumado mercado municipal, além da ensolarada praça Bocage. A partir dela caminhei pelas ruelas . Passeio feito com calma, na companhia do guia Carlos Rodrigues, perfeito conhecedor do local.
Depois Sesimbra, uma cidade à beira mar, super simpática, com um ótimo restaurante para provar frutos do mar bem fresquinhos: o Pedra Alta.
O final do passeio foi ao santuário Cristo-Rei, um ótimo local para se conhecer Lisboa do outro lado do rio Tejo, com direito à visão panorâmica da cidade.
