Itineraries

Day 1:
Sanctuary of Fátima

Starting our incredible journey on the Fátima, Batalha, Nazaré, and Óbidos Tour from Lisbon, our first stop is Fátima, one of the most important Marian Sanctuaries in the world. We pay homage to Our Lady at the Cova da Iria, visiting the two Basilicas – Our Lady of the Rosary and the Most Holy Trinity, as well as the original Chapel of the Apparitions.
The Chapel of the Apparitions, central to the Sanctuary, is a must-see for its significance, not just its grandeur. At one end, the neobaroque Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary, built in 1928, houses the tombs of the shepherd children Francisco, Jacinta, and Sister Lúcia. On the other side, the imposing Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity, completed in 2007 and designed by architect Alexandros Tombazis, is colossal, with more than 8,000 seats and 40,000 square meters.
Continuing, about three kilometers from Fátima, we explore Valinhos, the birthplace of the shepherd children, with their well-preserved homes. This moment, filled with devotion and history, is free for visitors.

Day 2:
Valinhos – Homes of the Shepherd Children

After honoring Our Lady of Fátima, we head about three kilometers to the birthplaces of the children. These remarkably well-preserved homes offer an enriching visit and free devotion to visitors. With your knowledge, I can delve deeper into historical details and curiosities, making the experience even more captivating.

Day 3:
Batalha Monastery

After the emotional celebration of the Mass, our journey continues to the Batalha Monastery, a magnificent example of Gothic architecture in Portugal. Built in the 14th century to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Aljubarrota, this monument stands as a powerful testament to Portugal’s independence from Spain. From late Gothic to Manueline style, every architectural detail tells a story of mastery and history. In the Unfinished Chapels, we are guided through the grandeur and symbolism that reveal the rich heritage of the Dominican friars. This visit offers a profound and engaging understanding of this important chapter in Portuguese history.

Day 4:
Alcobaça (optional)

With careful time management, we can explore the majestic Alcobaça Monastery, built in the 12th century and granted to the Cistercian Order by Portugal’s first king. This monument houses the tomb that inspired the famous saying “Inês is dead,” perpetuating a tragic love story. With its imposing architecture, the central nave stretches over 100 meters, offering an impressive sight. As we walk through these sacred halls, we can feel the serene atmosphere where monks once prayed beneath elaborate arches. Explore the kitchen and the innovative solutions reflecting early concerns with hygiene. A rewarding visit to a historical treasure in Portugal.

Day 5:
Nazaré Fishing Village

On our Fátima, Batalha, Nazaré, and Óbidos Tour, we explore the charming fishing village of Nazaré, known as the most charismatic in Portugal. We witness the drying of fish on the beach and admire the traditional “ladies of the seven skirts.” Moreover, Nazaré has gained global fame for its giant waves, a result of the extraordinary Nazaré Canyon. In 2013, surfer McNamara set a record by riding a wave nearly 30 meters high. During certain seasons, we may witness these phenomenal waves, showcasing the grandeur of nature in Portugal.

Day 6:
Medieval Village of Óbidos

In Óbidos, a UNESCO World Heritage site, we travel back to the Middle Ages, walking through charming narrow streets. Once a Templar defensive stronghold and a wedding gift from King Dinis to Queen Isabel, the village became part of the Queens’ Estate. Queen Catherine contributed to the construction of an aqueduct and fountains. During this journey, we also explore the famous ginja of Óbidos, inviting a delightful experience.
