3:
Palace Option: Pena Palace

Palace of Pena in Sintra. Lisbon, Portugal. Famous landmark. Sum

The Pena National Palace in Sintra is one of the greatest symbols of 19th-century Romanticism in the world. Perched at the top of the mountain range by King Ferdinand II, the “Artist King,” the palace stands out for its vibrant colors (yellow and red) and a fascinating blend of styles, including Neo-Gothic, Manueline, and Moorish influences.

Surrounded by an exotic forest park with species from all over the planet, the building looks like something out of a fairytale. Its interior preserves the royal chambers exactly as they were used by the monarchy, while the exterior offers panoramic views stretching from the mountains to the Atlantic Ocean. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1995.

4:
Palace Option: Queluz National Palace

The Queluz National Palace, often referred to as the “Portuguese Versailles,” is one of the last grand Rococo-style buildings in Europe. Built in the 18th century, it served as a summer residence and later as a leisure retreat for the Portuguese royal family.

The palace stands out for the elegance of its state rooms, decorated with gilded woodcarvings, Venetian mirrors, and exquisite tiles. Outside, its geometric gardens are a spectacle in their own right, adorned with fountains, lead statues, and a tile-lined canal where the royal family used to go boating.

It is a monument that perfectly combines the sophistication of palatial architecture with the serenity of gardens designed for the pleasure and ostentation of the court.

5:
Palace Option: Quinta da Regaleira

Quinta da Regaleira is one of the most enigmatic places in Sintra, built at the beginning of the 20th century by Carvalho Monteiro with the help of architect Luigi Manini. More than just a luxurious residence, the estate is a symbolic journey filled with references to Freemasonry, the Knights Templar, and Alchemy.

The main highlight is the Initiation Well, a subterranean gallery with a nine-level spiral staircase representing a descent into “hell” or a spiritual rebirth. The palace and its gardens are interconnected by a labyrinth of tunnels, grottoes, and lakes, creating a unique atmosphere of mystery.

With its Neo-Manueline and Gothic architecture, Regaleira is an invitation to explore legends and secrets hidden amidst Sintra’s exuberant vegetation.

6:
Sintra City Center

Now is the perfect opportunity to fall in love with the center of Sintra by exploring its charming alleys and narrow streets. In the historical heart of Sintra, you will discover numerous Portuguese handicraft shops; be sure to try the famous Travesseiros de Sintra at the Piriquita pastry shop. Enjoy some free time in this wonderful location.

Sintra is a true treasure, filled with historical monuments and fascinating tourist attractions. There are more than 10 national monuments, including opulent palaces, ancient ruins, and decorative palatial houses, all scattered across the region’s hills. Explore these wonders along challenging walking paths and immerse yourself in a unique experience.

The imposing Lighthouse, built in 1772 and standing at a grand 165 meters high, is a testament to the power of the Atlantic Ocean. This emblematic site in Portugal reveals itself as a location of extreme importance during the Age of Discovery, providing us with a unique and memorable experience. This is one of the highlights of our journey, where nature and history meet in majestic fashion.
