Before you book

What should you confirm about access?

Describe what makes a day comfortable for your group: walking distances, steps, standing time and any mobility equipment. Then ask for a route and vehicle assessment covering the whole journey, from pickup and boarding to the entrance, visit and return. Keep those details in the written confirmation.

Tell the team

  • Your walking and step requirements, and the breaks you prefer.
  • The dimensions and folded size of any equipment you will bring.

Ask for confirmation

  • How you will board the proposed vehicle and where equipment will travel.
  • Which entrances, paths and stops are included in the proposed route.

Start with the journey

Check boarding, pickup and the pace between stops

Ask about the actual vehicle proposed for your date: the boarding step, seating arrangement and space for equipment. If you need to remain in a wheelchair while travelling, say so explicitly and request confirmation of a suitable vehicle and its arrangements before booking. If you transfer to a seat, explain the assistance you require and ask what can be provided.

For pickup, check where the vehicle can stop and the route between your accommodation entrance and that point. For each visit, ask about walking distance, surface, slopes and opportunities to sit. A Lisbon viewpoint photograph shows the setting; confirm the access to the viewpoint you actually plan to use.

Build practical breaks into the day. Ask the team to check a suitable lunch stop and toilet access with the venue. A shorter visit or a different stop can be discussed when it better matches your group’s preferences.

Questions worth answering

  • Where will the vehicle stop for pickup and each visit?
  • What steps, gradients and surfaces are on the proposed walking route?
  • Where can we take a seated break and use a suitable toilet?

Check the specific visit

Confirm the entrance and route at each monument

For a Sintra day, identify the monument and the areas you want to visit: park, exterior terraces or interior rooms. Ask which entrance and route match your requirements, how you reach them from the drop-off point and what assistance or equipment needs arranging.

The official Pena access information describes steep approaches and specific arrangements within the site. Confirm the current arrangements directly with the monument for your date and chosen route. Allow time for that confirmation before buying tickets.

The published Walkborder Sintra, Cascais and Estoril tour provides a useful route example. Discuss the chosen monument and coastal stops with the team, including a suitable alternative if a proposed visit does not meet your requirements. Agree what the rest of the group would do if members choose different visit options.

A useful next step

Send the requirements with your preferred route

Share your starting point, date, group size, equipment details and priorities through the contact form. Ask for written confirmation of the proposed vehicle, access route, assistance and any separately arranged services. Keep the venue’s current access information alongside that proposal so you can make an informed booking.
