Hiking in Portugal, country offers a wide variety of paths that can be covered on foot, due to the fact that it has enough mountains and mountains in which it is good to walk and put into practice your desire to walk with the beautiful landscapes.

In the Algarve region, there are a number of organized tours, as there are plenty of nature trails for walking. There are several in the area of Monchique, and Rocha da Pena, although Sagres and Vila Real de Santo António also have some good starting points.

The north of Portugal is mountainous, and has several national parks that are beautiful and little visited. The most famous is the Peneda-Gerês National Park, offering fantastic routes in mountainous terrain through forests, villages and archaeological sites.

In Beiras is the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, a beautiful setting for hiking. Also worthy of note is the Zêzere Valley for its beauty. It is recommended to cross it to Manteigas base village.

The Parque Florestal de Monsanto is located in the Serra de Monsanto, in the municipality of Lisbon. It has a gigantic area to the total forest regime, about 10% of the municipality of Lisbon, integrating the territory of seven parishes:

  • Benfica;
  • São Domingos de Benfica;
  • Campolide;
  • Campo de Ourique;
  • Belém;
  • Help;
  • Alcântara;

The Azores are a paradise for nature walkers.

The archipelago is home to thirty officially recognized routes, half of which are located on the island of São Miguel. Most of its routes and trails allow you to walk without haste and enjoy the beautiful scenery, such as the hot baths, the forests, the cliffs, the fajãs, the mountains, etc. However, the most interesting are those located in large volcanic formations, such as that of the four calderas, or visiting the fajãs, places of unusual beauty formed by landslides or lava by the sea.

The island of Madeira is also a perfect place for hiking, the existence of numerous routes, all with beautiful scenery and along many levadas.

The best time for hiking in Portugal is in the spring (April to May) and autumn (late September and October), as the summer can be stifling, especially in regions such as Trás-os-Montes, Beira Baixa and Alentejo Algarve.
