Lisbon - Old Town

We’ll start our Tour Lisbon Sintra departing from your hotel in Lisbon, visiting the downtown area, with a visit to Baixa de Lisboa which was practically devastated by the great earthquake of 1755, the largest ever recorded in Europe, for this reason we need to rebuild the city with the first anti-seismic constructions, designed with a set of straight and perpendicular streets having as central axis the Rua Augusta. Stop at one of the most spectacular belvederes in the city, the “Lady of the Hill”, for one of the most superb panoramic views of Lisbon. Then we continue our Tour Lisbon Sintra into the Alfama neighborhood (ancient moorish quarter) with its narrow streets and alleys where “Fado”, the portuguese national music, began.
2

Bairro Alto-Chiado

Next, we head for Chiado neighborhood, known by its high-end shops and restaurants, followed by the quarter of ” Bairro Alto”(16th century), quiet neighborhood during the day time, but wake up in the evening becomes the bohemian district, full of bars and restaurants to suit all tastes, along the various parallel and labyrinthine streets. Definitely the center of Lisbon’s nightlife, a cultural outline neighborhood , where people from allover found them selves for entertainment and leisure.
3

Queluz Palace

Then our Tour Lisbon Sintra takes us to the the Queluz Palace (optional visit), in this palace where the Portuguese Royal family were found when the French invaded, which forced them to move the capital to Brazil, curiously it was born and died Pedro IV of Portugal who at the same time was Dom Pedro I of Brazil. Its Rococo style architecture stands out in its fantastic unequal gardens well disguised by the sequence of terraces and galleries with Tuscan columns, surmounted by a monumental staircase, a strong decoration in statuary clearly inspired by classical and allegorical mythology, connoted the geometric beauty of the boxwood hedges and polychromatic tiles with the stone and bronze of many of its statues.
4

Sintra historical Center

Time now to enjoy the center of Sintra, with its alleys narrow streets, with many Portuguese handicraft shops, as well as the famous “Pastelaria Piriquita” with its local sweets, free time to enjoy this wonderful place. Sintra a place with a great concentration of historical monuments and interesting tourist attractions, here we will find more than 10 national monuments, including opulent palaces, ancient ruins and decorative palatial houses dispersed by the different hills of the region in very challenging pedestrian paths.
5

Sintra Palaces

In Sintra, you will be given the choice to decide on the next monument to visit ( we suggest a maximum of one Palace ), from a wide range of options: Sintra National Palace, Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira, Monserrate Palace, Moorish Castle. Of course we will help you decide, providing information on each and every one of these spectacular monuments.

Great place to take photos and with some changes you can even enjoy the sunset.
8

Hell´s Mouth

At stop at Hell´s Mouth it´s a must, where we can easily see the magnificence of this place, with the erosion exerted by the strong action of the rain that, containing dissolved carbon dioxide, causes the carbonate to dissolve and through this process, cavities and caves are formed inside the limestones, with a fall of the upper layers of the cave was destroyed, leaving a large cavity in the open. On days of more agitated sea you can observe the waves crashing through the rocks inside, a cave that combines its natural beauty with the rough sea, a very beautiful place, where you can enjoy a divine landscape, being only overshadowed by infrequent suicides committed on its dangerous and unprotected cliff.
9

Cascais

Time to explore Cascais, this old fishing village, nowadays most famous for its splendid white sand beach, the many shops and charming cobbled streets or even for its cosmopolitanism, today transformed into an extremely luxurious Resorth that attracts visitors from all over the world, time to visit comfortably.
10

Estoril

On our way back to Lisbon, we pass by Estoril, famous for its casino (largest gambling room in Europe) and the “nest” of spies during the 2nd world war, where Yan Fleming got his inspiration to write the first James Bond book, Casino Royale, this former “nest” of espionage during World War II, especially demonstrated by its Casino, considered the largest in Europe, turning the whole coast, we arrived again in Lisbon, more precisely in Belém.
11

Belem

Driving back to Lisbon along road “Marginal” enjoying breathtaking ocean scenery, we arrive in Belem (Bethlehem), the monumental area dedicated to the great portuguese seafarers of the 15th and 16th centuries. Here we will visit the Tower of Belem (the symbol of Lisbon), the monastery of St. Jerome (Mosteiro dos Jeronimos), a masterpiece of portuguese 16th century architecture and World Heritage Monument by UNESCO, and the monument to the Discoveries. We will not leave the area without tasting the most famous pastry in Portugal: the “Pastel de Belem”, delicious egg custard pastry once made by the monks at the Jeronimo’s monastery.

We visited the chapel of the bones, a company that works the cork and the Piriquita, where we tasted an excellent wine.
We also visited, on another day, Óbidos and Sintra.
Who guided us on all these tours was Mr. Joaquim Nunes, wonderful and super loving person. Conquered the sympathy of my nine-year-old granddaughter immediately.
Mr. Joaquim is a walking encyclopedia, he provided us with excellent information about the itinerary of the tour and other matters concerning Portugal. Thank you, Mr. Joaquim and Hugo. We hope to see you soon.

Always contract the company for the airport-apartment transfer and the tour Lisbon and Sintra. They are punctual, attentive, always attentive to the maximum. I’ve taken a ride with them, too. They were wonderful. They gave us very interesting information and helped us in everything. Always willing to offer the best service. Super recommend it.

“Excellent”

We arranged for a half day tour of Sintra and the area around Sintra and Lisbon. This tour was put together by Hugo on very short notice, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Our host Rodrigo, impressed us with his professionalism, and knowledge of the area, we left the logistics and venues up to him and we were not disappointed. Rodrigo was completely fluent in English which made the tour even better for us. The vehicle was top of the line and clean. Thanks to Hugo and Rodrigo for making our stay in Lisbon a great stay. Highly recommend using walkborder. The only negative is, we should have planned better and taken more time

Excellent service with a totally different service. A care with attention, with information about the places, the particularities of the place, the history.
You use your time according to how you want to go where you are interested. Great cost-benefit ratio, where you have what you want for a well-priced price.

24 April, 2018

I wanted to give some feedback on a tour we recently completed with your agency — on 7 April we took a tour from Lisbon to Belem and Sintra. Our guide was Jao. On behalf of our group (8 persons), I would like to say that all of us enjoyed our experience very very much. Jao was an incredible guide — he was extremely friendly, knowledable, and made sure the day was structured in a way to maximize our enjoyment. We have just completed a two week long trip to parts of Europe, and this tour was one of the best that we had. Please let Jao know we appreciated his extra effort and attention to detail, all of which made the day very enjoyable.

Thank you
Ramesh Emani
