Fatima - Shrine

After leaving Lisbon early in the morning  in a ride through the portuguese countryside, we will arrive in Fatima  in time to attend mass services,  free time for religious souvenir shopping, and bring your purchases inside the sanctuary so they can get blessed by the “man of the cloth”.

An visit to the two Basilicas therein; Our Lady of the White Rosary and Holy Trinity and the Chapel of the Apparitions, the first Chapel to be built shortly after the apparitions, located in the center of the Sanctuary is a place not to be missed, not for grandeur, but for the meaning, it is mandatory to visit it on our Tour Fatima Batalha Nazaré and Obidos.

At one end the Basilica of Our Lady of the White Rosary, built in 1928 with a neo-baroque architecture, here you will find the tombs of the three little shepherd children (Francis and Jacinta), and now also the tomb of Sister Lucia, in the other end the imposing Basilica of the Holy Trinity, built in 2007 with more than 8,000 seats and 40,000 m² of area designed by the Greek architect Alexandros Tombazis.

Now it’s time to visit the city, starting with the University, dated from 1290 when king Dinis order it’s construction. Here you will be able to visit the “Joanina Library” cited by the renowned british newspaper “The Telegraph” as “…the most spectacular library in the world…”, a jewel of the baroque in Portugal, carrying over 70.000 books in it’s shelves. From the University’s upper ground, the view over Coimbra is simply spectacular, with the rio Mondego (the largest portuguese born river), dividing the city in two main areas. After enjoying the library, we will continue visiting the University of Coimbra and visit other interesting places like; Saint Michel Chapel, the “Capelos”room, the Tower, among others.

Coimbra

Time to visit the city  center starting with the romanesque style 12th century cathedral, followed by walk in the old town, where you can see the famous Arc of the Almedina and visit the Church of Santa Cruz where the first king of Portugal, Afonso Henriques (Afonso I) is buried. Developed with the separation of the “Alta”, where lived the nobility, the clergy and, later, the students and the “Baixa”, predominated by the commerce, crafts and neighborhoods. A region to relax and to be lost in this enchanting city, its narrow streets, beautiful alleys and squares, where you will find numerous cafes, bakeries and restaurants.
The Baixa de Coimbra, rich in culture and an unforgettable gastronomy, this area has been the commercial center of the city for hundreds if not thousands of years, maintaining its genuine atmosphere and unique personality.
Our Tour Fatima and Coimbra is an excellent option, if you looking into visiting these two cities without the discomfort and the hassle of a bus loaded with people.

We opted to do 2 tours and the transfer with the agency Walkborder Tours and we really enjoyed the service offered. The cars are brand new and have water and wi-fi on board. The guide John was very friendly and helpful with us, took us to good restaurants and left us at ease to choose the sights to visit or not. Besides knowing everything from the history of the places, João takes great photos! I also asked for a birthday cake for my sister, and it was all arranged with great care and attention. Overall the services offered by Walkborder Tours are well worth it, for the tranquility and comfort.

“Excellent private tours!”

We did the airport-hotel-airport transfers and the dinner tours of Fados and Coimbra and Tomar with the Walkborder and we love everything! Hugo was very kind and attentive in the pre and post sale and the guide Rodrigo was very friendly and timely. The tours are all private and can be customized. When I return to Portugal I will certainly contact them again. I recommend everyone who wants to get to know this beautiful country!

I went to Portugal and had the pleasure of doing tours with Walkborder Tours. The experience was sensational. Our guide was Mr. Rodrigo Jacques who was extremely attentive, timely, polite and very personable. I recommend the packages and tours with this company and I affirm that whenever I go to Portugal I will make walks with them. It was beyond our expectations…

The guide was excellent, and had lots of knowledge, very willing, friendly and attentive. I did the tour Fatima and Coimbra and the one of Serra da Estrela.
I recommend it as a private tour.
It is very flexible, which is a good point, but one can not have much sense of time and end up losing what one really wanted to see. All in all, everything wonderful! It has water and wi-fi and super-comfortable vans.
